Maeva Cunci - La Représentation de trop

La Représentation de trop, is a fragile house of cards in which three characters decide to live.

Instead of holding on to the habitual common sense and the proper way to do things, they situate themselves more on the side of the non- mastered, the letting go, a clumsiness that is glorified by an acquired taste for a certain amateurism. Enlightened maybe, but in that case just by a pocket-lamp. And if, even though we are no architects, we would try to apply what we know about building a house? That would be inventiveness through experience.

This is the logic underlying La Représentation de trop. This can be translated as a wish to flirt with a number of media without going into depts., from sub-marine video to contemporary dance passing through the trialogue of text-theatre, poetic reciting, contemporary art installations and heroic pop songs. With small steps. If the attempt fails, it becomes all the more charming. And one would say, blinking away a tear “ o, how splendidly horrible, bis bis”

The driving idea behind La Représentation de trop, is the wish to « romanticise » the real, passing through decontructive games and agents, constructions and reversal on various levels, in accumulated strati, that propose versions of reality that shift and evolve throughout the performance and that reverberate differently.

In the end, it is a playful and moving thing, poetic and funny, medieval and contemporary. It is a show that does not stop starting over and over again, of which the persistence to put things in order, over and over again, forces respect. Attempt after attempt and then all of a sudden, it is the end.

During her residency at the Pianofabriek Kunstenwerkplaats, Maeva Cunci and Dominique Gilliot will work on the English version of La Représentation de trop , created in French in January 2014 by Flore Cunci, Maeva Cunci and Dominique Gilliot.
